Jan. 12—PELLA — Just days after Pella School Board members approved a vaccine policy to comply with federal OSHA standards, members voted again — this time to rescind the policy.

The day after the Board voted in favor of the policy, Iowa Labor Commissioner Rod Roberts gave notice that the Iowa Division of Labor will not enforce the Biden Administration's mandate that all workplaces with over 100 employees mandate vaccinations or weekly COVID-19 tests and masks.

Because the policy was passed in order to avoid fines, board members felt that an unenforced policy is not necessary for the district.

"The real purpose of the policy was to be compliant and with no enforcement, there's really no purpose for the policy at this point," Superintendent Greb Ebelig said.

In other matters, the board:

— awarded a contract to Townsend Co. for bleacher replacement in the High School gym. Townsend was the lowest of three bidders with a cost estimate of $237,298;

— awarded a contract to Graphite Construction for HVAC replacement in the High School. Graphite was the lowest of three bidders with a cost estimate of $3,575,000;

— awarded a contract to Sprinturf LLC for a High School turf replacement project.
